South Coast Branch is proud to announce that Long Time Surf Lifesaving member Mr Reg Wood of Sussex Inlet has been awarded Life Membership of Surf Life Saving NSW. Reg first joined Avalon Surf Life Saving Club 70 year ago in 1944 and continued his active membership with Avalon until 1989 when he retired from his employment and moved to Sussex Inlet where joined Sussex Inlet Surf Life Saving Club.
During Reg’s 70 years of active involvement with Surf Life Saving Australia, he held positions with Avalon Surf Club as Club Vice Captain, Board Captain, a member of the Club Judiciary Committee, Club Assistant Secretary, Club Management Committee and Delegate to Surf Life Saving Australia. Reg was a Champion Board Paddler and Double Ski Champion in surf sports as a young man.
On transfer to Sussex Inlet in 1989 Reg continue to be active in Surf Life Saving as an Active Reserve Patrol member, Club Training Officer and Club Chief Training Officer. He further took up positions on the South Coast Branch surf life saving Board of Lifesaving & Assessors. He was a District Supervisor of Patrols and Examination Assessor for new lifesavers completing the Surf Bronze Medallion and existing members upgrading to new awards of Advanced Resuscitation, Oxy-Viva and other’s.
Reg is a true gentleman and has the highest respect of members of the surf life saving movement and the community. Reg is a Life Member of Avalon SLSC, Sussex Inlet SLSC and South Coast Branch SLS. South Coast Branch SLS congratulates Reg in receiving this recognition of Life Membership of Surf Life Saving NSW and are very proud of his achievement over 70 years.
